This is a well-written and accessible introduction to the Wars of the Roses. Each campaign is dealt with in a separate chapter with a couple of chapters looking at the politics and personalities involved. This form of military history is seen as being a little old fashioned but there is still a place for straightforward analysis of what happened when, and why it happened. A complex story well told (I couldn't put it down) without being swamped by political and economic detail. ( )

Epigraph
Dedication
This work is dedicated to Lewis and Charlotte, my children, and my wife Sarah, without whose support, encouragement and input it would never have been completed. (It must be a unique experience to be a fifteenth-century war widow in the twentieth century.) Also to the memory of Richard Brooke and Alfred Burne, two historians to whom we should all be grateful.
First words
The preservation and interpretation of battlefields is fast becoming a deep and meaningful interest to people in all walks of life.
