This Freddy book, one of a series of 26 chapter books for children roughly aged 8 to 12, is extremely funny. It's chief theme is friendship. While I have never watched a football game all the way through, I did not find the football too difficult to follow. If a young reader enjoys football, they will be amused by how Freddy plays the game!
