Lady Stanhope comes to the Glass Library to determine if books she purchased have magic on them. Sylvia is drawn to the books but none of them can say if they are. They need to find a silver magician or a paper magician to determine that. The bookbinder that sold them to her has been murdered. Gabe and Alex are called in by Scotland Yard to investigate the murder. Gabe brings Sylvia in on the murder also. Going into the criminal underbelly of London, they try to determine who else in interested in the books and why. Will they find the murderer? Will they be next as they continue their investigation?

I am enjoying this series immensely. I love how Gabe and Sylvia are attracted to each other but neither will say anything. I also like how Alex and Daisy go round and round trying to hide their attraction. This is the first time Gabe uses his magic to save them as they travel amongst criminals. I like how the horse racing was brought in to show how the underbelly of society worked. The time period is well done here. Some of the minor characters give authenticity to how the soldiers who returned were treated as they tried to fit back into society.

I look forward to the next book. ( )
