The other Human Target book improved on second read; this one maybe drops a few notches, because the quick changes and identity crises and big reveals aren't so shocking anymore. But it's Sunset Strip noir with a psychosexy undercurrent, and Milligan still has his way of sketching broken people in a way that breaks your heart using only a few words, and then doing horrible things to them. While posing as an elderly film actor, the Human Target successfully takes down and kills the man who has been extorting aging thespians. But when Chance learns that the extortionist has also kidnapped a child actor, the master of disguise must impersonate his dead victim in order to find the boy before he dies of starvation.
