Well-written story of two convicts who escape from Louisiana and flee to Texas where they become embroiled in the battle of the Alamo. The plot is singular and linear, which is the only significant flaw of the book. Without any subplots, there is too little complexity for a thriller of this length.
Two men break out of a Louisiana prison in 1835 and flee to Texas. Once there, they join Sam Houston's army and take part in the Texas' revolution of 1835-36. This is an entertaining combination of fiction and history with some Native American lore and some romance thrown in for good measure.
This is a sideways look at the battle of the Alamo with a James Lee Burke slant. Read it!
