I found this guide to public speaking enjoyable and informative with many tips for those who address or "speak" before a "live" audience. I would add only that to speak is to be mis-understood. ( )

"Presenters Aren’t Robots" provides great reminders of the basics of public speaking. This book emphasizes the importance of authenticity and connecting with your audience, rather than delivering a robotic performance. The practical tips on engaging listeners, managing nerves, and using body language are clear and relatable.

It's a handy, concise read that’s useful for both beginners and seasoned presenters. It’s a great resource (and quick read) for anyone looking to make their presentations more human and impactful. ( )

I was given a free copy of "Presenters Aren't Robots: A Practical Guide to Becoming a Fearless and Engaging Public Speaker" via LibraryThing and Annie Pettit, the author. As someone who has stood up in front of people and presented, I am always looking to learn more about presenting so that I can become more comfortable and professional in my presentations. This is not a long book, it is concise, upbeat and encouraging. It has been helpful to me and I think anyone who reads it will get valuable information. ( )

Why I picked this book up: I was again selected as a lucky recipient as an Early Reviewer on LibraryThing, this time from the May 2024 batch. I asked for it because if I wanted to become a better presenter, speaker and possibly use it in YouTube or TikTok.

Thoughts: With a philosophy of no question is dumb or too small, this concise and to-the-point book can give a wealth of practical tips, knowledge, and advice to start becoming a great conference and event speaker.

This book contains a lot of lists and clear examples that can help us learn how to address audiences of all sizes in a way that educates, entertains, and doesn’t annoy with unwanted and unnecessary sales pitches.
The author asked us to “Help keep any fear and anxiety under wraps by knowing exactly what to expect at every stage of the process.”

Who Will Benefit: Whether you’re fresh out of school or have decades of business experience, taking to the stage for the first time can be scary and intimidating. But becoming a speaker will help you in both your personal and work life. If you’re ready to move forward in your career, get that promotion, become a more effective leader, and generate a persona that people will listen to, this book is for you. On the other hand, if you’re ready to emcee your niece’s wedding reception or host your mother’s retirement party, this book will help you take to the stage and engage your audience with confidence.

Chapters include:
* Finding your why and your story
* Crafting a meaningful and effective story
* How to be engaging
* How to not be a sales pitch or annoy your audience
* Being self-aware on stage
* Taking questions effectively
* Handling fear and anxiety
* Creating effective visuals and slides
* Logistics of getting on stage

Why I finished this read: This book can help marketers, brand managers, and advertising executives who may have less experience in the research industry create great questionnaires and collect high quality data. It can also help academic and experienced researchers write questionnaires that are better suited for the general population, particularly when using research panels and customer lists.This book was conceived by experienced researcher with more than twenty years of practical experience who realized that many questionnaire guides continue to treat the people who answer questionnaires as robots rather than as fallible, imperfect people.Topics include general considerations related to the process, how to write screener questions, how to write data quality questions, and how to tackle specific types of questions from single-selects, grids, scales, and more. And, it does it from an empathetic and respectful point of view which points people first and researchers second.

Stars rating: This book is a collection of many important things the author learned over his years of presenting. This book is an 11 chapter book in 77 pages in this book that is not just an abstract theory but has practical tips, knowledge, and advice so we can focus on what matters, our material, our stuff. This book was not an in depth treaties but a useful little book that reminded me of important points that I have done in my many presentations over the years in school, churches, community events, and many in employment as a psychologist. I will rate this at 43 out of 5 stars as it hit a lot of good formation that I’ve used a lot maybe others could read in preparation for their upcoming presentation. ( )
