Another reviewer wrote that the final book in the Faerie Wars series takes on an entirely different tone, look, and feel than its predecessors. I couldn't agree more - and I absolutely adored it for those reasons! - This final story seemed more in line with the "hero's journey" motif that saps like me find so thrilling! The direction completely changes, and along with it, a sense of what is truly important. Older, previously dominant characters are put on the backburner, carried-over conflicts are tucked away, and therefore Henry, my sweet, sweet Henry, is given the chance to shine! As I was reading, I kept hearing that Mulan song "I'll Make a Man out of You" in my brain, and I thought that was pretty appropriate! - Just like the show more previous books, though, there is no shortage of action (especially following Ruler of the Realm; my mind is still boggled from that experience!) but like I said before, the rite-of-passage theme gives some needed maturity to this enjoyable series. The first three books were action-packed, clever and imaginative, and wickedly funny; now, thanks to the fourth and final installment, the series finally gets heart, and with that, a true purpose. Now, much as I like Herbie Brennan and Faerie Lord I do feel the urge to wag my finger in his direction, because there were some noticeable plot holes (they dont jeopardize the main story, but they're annoying nonetheless) and some contradictions in character descriptions. Also, I still feel the same way I did at the end of Ruler of the Realm: an ingenious plot device that is a little too easily solved. The epic "battle" (and it's not really a battle so much as a test) is over in practically the blink of an eye, and you're left feeling that the efforts of the characters are somehow futile because of it. Also, I still feel a bit confused at how certain events ended up coming together... So why did I give this final book 5 stars instead of 4? Even if the story may not have been executed in the most effective (or coherent) way possible, the look-and-feel of the story captured my attention and my emotions. And I got my happy ending. Seriously: JUST the way I like it. See, YA authors? It *CAN* be done! If a dude author can give closure, you should, too (CASSIE CLARE! HOLLY BLACK!) And now another series is over and I'm sad again. You just can't beat series books! Whatever will I read next?!?! show less
Henry returns to the Faerie Realm after a visit from Pyrgus, an elder Pyrgus. A disease has hit the realm, temporal fever. It causes the host to fall into a coma, living years of their life within the trance, and waking up visibly older. Henry returns to the realm at the request of Mr. Fogarty, who has contracted the fever and doesn’t have much time left.Upon his arrival Henry is transported to the desert, by Madame Cardui, without a viable reason! In the meantime the usual villains, Chalkhill, Brimstone, and Hairstreak are up to now good. Calling up mythical creatures trying to overthrow the Queen, the usual.Queen Blue herself, distraught with Henry’s predicament sets out to rescue him, and finds out the truth of his sudden show more transport. Will she be able to save Henry and the realm before the plague ravages them all!The Faerie Lord is the fourth book in The Faerie War Chronicles. This was an excellent final installment! The multiple plots weave together to form a story full of suspense and action! I couldn’t stop turning the pages. Although the story seemed predicable at times, I never saw the ending coming! I was happy to finally see some closure between Henry and Blue, it wouldn’t be a faerie tale without a happy ending! show less

Henry Atherton has been desperately trying to forget about his friends in the Faerie Realm for the last two years, which is a bit hard considering his responsibility of looking after Mr. Fogarty's abandoned house and temperamental cat. It is while tending Hodge that Pyrgus and Nymph make a sudden reappearance.
Only...Pyrgus has aged considerably due to a mysterious disease running rampant throughout Faerie that is causing them to grow old at an alarming rate.
With very little persuasion, Henry plunges back into Faerie to aid the realm in the search for a cure. But soon he finds himself far, far away from The Purple Palace and in a desolate land with only an intelligent and primitive show more blue-skinned boy for company. Now it's a race against time to find a miracle that will save all of Faerie...
Old enemies, new friends, and an age-old battle are all mixed in with lovable and familiar characters to make up a thrilling conclusion to the riveting story that began in FAERIE WARS. As Brennan's characters have grown and matured, so has his writing. Unfortunately, some characters aren't as present in Faerie Lord as they were in previous books, but the story line has more than enough drama, suspense, and mystery to make up for it.
Though readers will be sad that Henry, Pyrgus, and Blue's adventures have come to an end, the ending is one that is more than satisfying. show less

A great and touching ending to this quartet of books. Involves a lot of action and some romance. Definitely geared towards lower teen readers with the nice short chapters, but an enjoyable read even for an adult. I just wish there were more books than these four.
This book was supposed to be that last one in the series, and the book's jacket even says it. However it isn't, because he released The Faeman Quest, the fifth installment in the series. Faerie Lord for me just did not have the same magic as the previous three. It was far too short, and the story was just not as interesting as the others. The aging disease and the introduction of angels were interesting elements in the stories plot, however it just wasn't enough for me to not be let down by this book. Oh well c'est la vie sometimes.
Two years have past since the last book, and now Henry is asked to return to Faerie World by Mr. Fogarty to help end an aging disease.
It was a good ending to a great series. I enjoyed reading about Henry's adventures these past few books.

It has been two years since Henry left the faerie realm and turned down Blue's marriage proposal. Henry is called back to faerie to help find the cure for an aging disease that will destroy the realm.
