Wombat Divine

The Wombat Divine is a sweet picture book about a Wombat, his love for Christmas, and his excitement to FINALLY be old enough to try out for the Nativity play. However, he discovers that finding the perfect character role is increasingly difficult for him. He does not quite fit in until a friend suggests he play the role of baby Jesus. He was perfect for the role and stole the show in the play and this book. Yay for the underdog or should I say the Wombat Divine.

A festive wombat eagerly auditions for various parts in the Nativity play but struggles to find the right role until the animals figure out he will make the perfect baby Jesus. Vividly detailed watercolors bring the Australian animals to life (and costume them in richly patterned fabric!) My pick for a religious read-aloud program.

I'm a huge lover of wombats, so this book was a big let-down to me. Though it is cute and charming in places, the representation of Wombat bothers me. They are often portrayed as big, oaf-ish, stupid creatures and this is a portrayal that bothers me as they are actually very alert, intelligent creatures. The story is simple and cute, and it has it's place as a good Christmas story for children, but it is overall nothing spectacular and, in many instances, bothersome.

I'm absolutely smitten by 'Wombat Divine'; the plot, the illustrations the gorgeous character of the wombat who is striving to find his place in the world... loved it! This Christmas I wanted to read it to every child I met.

A wonderful about Wombat a lovable creature who finally is old enough to be in the nativity play. Unfortunately due to his size, clumsiness, and other qualities impair him from getting star roles. His theater teacher tells him to never give up and he eventually gets the staring role, Jesus. A very humorous tale of not fitting in. Great for the holidays!

Australian animals put on a nativity play, and the enthusiastic wombat tries to find the role that best utilizes his 'talents'. A sweet story of finding our gifts and our place in the world.

Super cute story but feel this is a read at home with Mom and Dad story. Wombat really wants to be in the Nativity play this year. He auditions for each part, not being quite right for it. In the end he gets the perfect part-Baby Jesus. The Nativity goes wonderfully and Wombat is the best baby Jesus, ever!
