A more than decent cookbook, but the end of the intro made me raise my eyebrows.

"This two-hours-later course is especially recommended if grass is smoked socially at your house. If you have passed a joint around before dinner to sharpen gustatory perceptions, you most likely will pass another one after dinner, and everyone knows what that will do — the blind munchies can strike at any time."
i received this cookbook as a gift when i was a vegetarian. i loved it then, and i still love it now, even though i'm no longer a veggie. there are some fantastic recipes in here whether you eat meat or not. among my favorites are the stuffed peppers, marinated veggies a la grecque, and for dessert, the raspberry fool.
One of the books which I know I can trust. I LOVE the Mushrooms berkeley recipe, which our family always calls "Dark and Evil" when it appeals on the table. It's starting to fall apart from use, but I'd never be without it.
I treasure some of the recipes in the two volumes of "The Vegetarian Epicure," especially for quiche and Mideastern meze. The revised edition of the book that came out in the 1990s was not as good. I put a lot of effort into some of its recipes, only to be disappointed.
This is a classic that belongs on the bookshelf of anyone who cooks. Personally, I'm omnivorous, but there are dishes in here I can't live without. With a renewed interest in vegetarian cuisine for health reasons, this book is making a much deserved comeback.
My parents have had this book since I was very small, and I grew up with the German Apple Pancake and the Curried Eggs. I had to get my own copy. If you want rich and cheesy, this is your book!
I love the feel of these books. And that fact that she chose the word "epicure" over "gourmet". And, face it, this was groundbreaking in the field of vegetarian cooking.
