Amaryllis Duvane is the poor relation of the title. She had been a sought after debutante, but after her father's death, she had been forced to accept the so-called charity of her family and was now little more than a servant.
She had just about accepted her fate, when a ghost from the past appears - the Marquess of Merechester, her former fiancee.
I really enjoyed this one. Some of Chesney's books get a little outlandish for me, but this one was very well done. The lovers were kept apart for just about the right amount of time, their reunion seemed natural, as did their reservations.
