Pamela Vandyke Price was born Pamela Walford in Coventry, England on March 21, 1923. She studied English at Somerville College, Oxford and trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. In 1952, she became the household editor for House and Garden magazine. A few years later, she worked in public relations and started work towards show more her wine tasting qualifications. She was the first woman in Britain to write seriously about wine and spirits. Her books include France: A Food and Wine Guide, France for the Gourmet Traveler, and A Woman of Taste. She also worked as the editor of Wine and Food Magazine, a wine correspondent of the Times newspaper, and taught wine tasting at Christie's. She was the first winner of the Glenfiddich award for her wine writing in 1971 and won a further Glenfiddich medal in 1973. She died on January 12, 2014 at the age of 90.
