Magdalena Yoder, the owner of the Penn-Dutch Inn is finally getting married. Not only is she busy planning her wedding, and dealing with her future husband's relatives who are staying at the Inn, but her future father-in-law gives her a barrel of sauerkraut as a wedding gift, which contains the remains of Aaron (the groom's) cousin who has been missing for 20 years. Magdalena doesn't want anything to spoil her wedding and tries to find the killer before the day of her wedding.

As always, Myers fills the book with quirky characters, many of whom are suspects. Her books are laugh out loud funny, in fact, I'm still laughing over the last two pages!
Another in the Pennsylvania Dutch Mystery series. This has Magdalena finally marrying Aaron. She receives a barrel of sauerkraut from her soon to be father-in-law as a wedding present. Unbeknownst to them however there is a body in the barrel as well as the kraut. This finds Magdalena trying to solve a 20 year old mystery as well as finish up the last minute preperations for her wedding that is less than a week away. As with all the Tamar Myers books this is filled with quirky characters. A nice fun read.
What's worse than a barrel of sauerkraut for a wedding present from your future father-in-law? When there's a corpse in it.

Only days before her wedding Magdalena Yoder is saddled with a house full of future in-laws and the sheriff is once again breathing down her neck.

Mayhem and murder in Amish country - and another crop of tasty recipes, too.

The fourth book in the series was enjoyable as always, and when something could go wrong with her wedding, it did. Seemed a little forced compared to the previous books. Since I think they are getting too forced and silly, I am abandoning the series.
I needed to read this book for a couple of reading challenges. I had started this series years ago and with this one, I remember anew why I stopped. The mystery was good and I didn't guess the culprit at all. But her character is more annoying than amusing. She's always wailing about something and calling her man "pooky bear" was just too much to put up with for more than one book.

Tamar Myers was born and raised in the Belgian Congo (now just the Congo). Her parents were missionaries. She was sixteen when her family settled in America. In college she began to submit novels for publication, but it took 23 years for her to get published. Persistence paid off, however, because Tamar is now the author of two ongoing mystery show more series. One is set in Pennsylvania and features Magdalena Yoder, an Amish-Mennonite sleuth who runs a bed and breakfast in the mythical town of Hernia. The other is set in the Carolinas and centers around the adventures of Abigail Timberlake, the proud owner of a Charlotte (and later Charleston) antique store, the Den of Antiquity. Tamar now calls Charlotte, NC home. She lives with her husband, plus a Basenji dog, a Bengal cat, and an orange tabby rescue cat. (Bowker Author Biography) show less
