This is a seminal work on the Attributes of God. A very solid Puritan classic, though is not light reading. As a corpus it is unrivalled, and probably will remain so, though there are more 'accessible' modern treatments of this subject theologically. Some would say this theology is slightly too influenced by Western Classical understanding rather than Hebrew worldview - but is remains grounded in Scripture and appeals to Scripture throughout. One thing it lacks is a chapter on the Trinity. However, that does not mean to say that this book does not have a thoroughly Trinitarian understanding, it does and strongly and helpfully upholds the Deity of Christ in many aspects.

When you truly wish to get serious about what the bible has to say about anything you must go to the Puritans. When you wish to know what scripture says about God in particular you go to Stephen Charnock. If you are not dead serious about your search to know God do not bother opening this book, however, if you wish to get to know God better than you ever have before, outside of the bible you cannot do better than this book.
The classic Christian book to explain the existance and attriubutes of God.

"When the essence and attributes of God are called into question, to whom else can we better go than to Stephen Charnock? . . . the study of God's attributes is not dry-as-dust theology, but is practical; that is, it leads to righteousness." -- Gordon H. Clark
