Description

A collection of stories where a monster lurks on every corner, in every profession and in every race and class. The monsters are unimaginably strange and yet have their genesis in the very recognizable ills of contemporary society.

Nigellicus Though entirely different in focus, both authors write stories that combine things in ways that are exciting and delightful and make you sit up and engage your brain. Waldrop - cowboys and The War Of The Worlds. Newman - Zorro and werewolves. Both excellent writers.

Despite the cover, this is a collection of stories that are far from conventional. If I tell you that the title story was originally called 'Famous monsters of filmland' (doubtless retitled for excellent copyright reasons, even though it isn't possible to copyright titles), and concerned the Hollywood career of one of H.G.Wells' Martians in the years after the failed invasion when the Martians realised that human blood was fatal to them and Earth gave the exiled Martians asylum. That's a fairly typical Newman story, and is typical of what's in this collection. Those who like this sort of thing will find that this is the sort of thing they like.
