This one got a little heart-of-darkness in a way that had me prepared to cringe, but I do think she stuck to her clear objective of supporting indigenous peoples in all areas.
Allende takes us into the heart of Africa in this last installment of her young adult series. Kate Cold, intrepid sestagenarian journalist for international geographic is accompanied once again by her grandson Alex and his young friend Nadia. This journey takes them into the heart of Africa, where the travellers are confronte with a village under the cruel thumb of a mercenary. Alex and Nadia use their strength and courage to unmask the villains and return harmony the area. Although the first book balanced adventure with an exploration of the spiritual lives of the amazon, the last two fell short on both sides. Although the story rolled along quite nicely, I found it a little trying to read about how Alex and Nadia were able to conquer show more the day simply on the strength of their awakened spirituality. show less
After speed reading through, slowed down at the last few chapters where the actual adventure began. I felt like I was reading a magical Dora and the Explorer. Perhaps the translation wasn't as smooth but the storyline was predictable at some point.
Another exciting adventure in the Allende's trilogy! It's a fun read, although I felt it would have been better if it had been a bit longer. This is the last book, and I'm sad to say goodbye to Alexander and Nadia.

Though this wasn't the best book in the series it was still pretty good. But like the first book it still took a little time to really get in to it. It is like the other books where Alexander and Nadia are travelling together but this time they go to Africa to search for the Forest of the Pygmies. This is a great ending book to the series.
I hope that Isabel Allende will write some more teen books!
