Maybe I have been reading fantasy too long or that this book was originally written for a new fantasy line by a long-time romance publisher, but the novel seemed to telegraph the entire plot for the trilogy. Sweet young maiden witch meets rogue and they both have a Greater Role to play.

That said, it is a pleasantly written book and should prove of interest to many other readers of fantasy. I'd give it 3.5 stars.

Maura has lived a quiet life as ward of Langbard the wizard. She’s learned healing potions and balms and stays out of the path of the evil Hans who’ve conquered her land. But when she spies an outlaw fleeing from the soldiers, she feels compelled to aid him. Giving the man shelter isn’t the wisest course of action, but her guardian oddly seems to approve. And when her beloved mentor is killed, she has no choice except to join Rath on a trek to danger. Her destiny as the legendary Destined Queen is to awaken the Waiting King and lead their people to freedom, but can she manage with so few resources? As she and Rath start on their perilous journey, it becomes clear that one of the dangers is their growing feelings for each other. show more

This engrossing fantasy will sweep you away to a land where evil rules and legendary heroes are born. I enjoyed this story and would look for more by this talented author.

The plot was pretty much telegraphed in the first few pages. Young Woman is the hidden queen, old geezer who is her guardian is killed by the nasty wizard from the opressing race, rogue with heart-of-gold is convinced to help her search for the hidden king.
I loved this book; the ending is great.
