The Long Midnight Of Barney Thomson

Surreal, almost ridiculous at times but never less than fun, this tale of an accidental murderer is thrilling and had be laughing out loud.

There are no heroes in this book. Just one poor unfortunately fool who has the misfortune of having horrendous things happen to him. The problem is he doesn't do the right thing when they happen and only makes life harder for himself. Barney Thomson is not a nice person, but he is not a evil person either. Things just happen around him.

And that's what makes this book different and equally enjoyable.

Excellent fun! black, black comedy, a wonderfully pathetic central character who is haplessley dragged by (mostly) bad luck from one increasingly unlikely disaster to the next.

Caruccio, ma nulla più. La parlata gergale irrita un poco (sentire parlare in marchigiano sgrammaticato degli ispettori scozzesi non è proprio un gran che) e la storia ha alcuni momenti buffi, ma ci fermiamo lì. Non so gli altri tre libri della stessa serie come siano; penso rimarrò con la curiosità.

Barney Thomson est coiffeur. Un vrai coiffeur à l'ancienne, mais qui ne sait pas badiner au sujet de la pluie, du beau temps et du foot comme le font ses deux patrons. A l'occasion d'une discussion avec un de ses collègues, celui-ci s'empale sur une paire de ciseaux et meurt. C'est le début des dégâts... mais Barney n'est pas au bout de ses ressources et du hasard, qui fait parfois tellement bien les choses... Une merveille d'humour, de cynisme et d'enquête policière.
