My sister-in-law gave us this book and I really like it. It helps a lot to have some understanding of chemistry and physics but I think someone who didn't have a science background could also really enjoy it.

Letto a Jericocoara, non scherziamo, un bel libro su Einstein. Il sottotitolo ed il titolo incutono timore. L’equazione di Dio è una formula? E Dio accetta che qualche uomo possa risolvere la sua equazione? E poi matematica, fisica, chimica; di cosa parla esattamente questo libro? E invece no. In pratica, sintesi estrema, è una biografia, diversa, di Einstein. Aczel, matematico di livello internazionale, depone la toga professorale ed indossa i vestiti del divulgatore. Con un buon risultato. Manca la, consueta per molti, vedi famiglia Angela, mitragliata di certezze tipiche di molti divulgatori. Il racconto che si si svolge tra la Germania e Fuchal, tra Camucin e l’Ungheria, è lineare. Parla della formula della relatività, show more raccontando le difficoltà che trovò per affermare teorie allora indimostrabili. Parla del rapporto tra lo scienziato tedesco e gli astronomi, i matematici. La relatività guarda lontano, su su, molto in su. Romane, onestamente, un senso di fastidio nei confronti proprio di Einstein. Non si mette in dubbio, per carità, il valore scientifico. Ma si comprende che l’attribuzione di meriti, diciamo, praticamente dovuti si trasformano nei consueti tributi al vincitore. Una bella lettura. show less

Amir D. Aczel was born in Haifa, Israel on November 6, 1950. He received bachelor's and master's degrees in mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley and a doctorate in decision sciences from the business school at the University of Oregon. He taught at several universities during his lifetime including the University of Alaska and show more Bentley College. His first book, Complete Business Statistics, was published in 1989 and went through eight editions. His other books include How to Beat the I.R.S. at Its Own Game: Strategies to Avoid - and Fight - an Audit; Fermat's Last Theorem: Unlocking the Secret of an Ancient Mathematical Problem; The Mystery of the Aleph: Mathematics, the Kabbalah, and the Search for Infinity; The Riddle of the Compass: The Invention That Changed the World; Entanglement: The Greatest Mystery in Physics; and Finding Zero: A Mathematician's Odyssey to Uncover the Origins of Numbers.
