Out of date now, to some degree. But this got me fascinated with science, and particularly the science behind military sci fi. For me this was a seminal book. (

The science behind gosh-wow future military technology. No stone is left unturned in an effort to find ever more extensive means of global domination (and/or destruction). In-jokes from the writer friends of the author at the time abound. I have a rare unsigned copy! (
