Description
Kate Clinton's first book of irreverent humorLet's get one thing straight. I'm not. I'm out and proud. My closet was huge, complete with a foyer, turnstile, a few dead bolts, and a burglar alarm. It wasn't until I had lived and slept with a woman for a year that it occurred to me to ask, "Do you think we're lesbians?"Tags

Kate Clinton is all over the place in this collection of mini-essays comprising her first book, Don't Get Me Started. She writes about coming out, her family, her stand-up comedy, college, politics, the gay community, and earthquakes, among many other topics. While her writing is not laughing-out-loud funny like Ellen Degeneres, her more intellectual approach towards topics give interesting insight into the topics she discusses. However, the more subtle humor, with a sarcastic bent, is woven into her essays, keeping them fairly light and enjoyable. Overall, Kate Clinton is worth reading and I'm curious to see how her writing style develops in her later books.

- (Click to show. Warning: May contain spoilers.)Since the goal of feminism is the end of the oppression of women and since there still seem to be some loose ends to tie up before we bring it about, I will be employed as a feminist humorist for a few more years. No downsizing, no layoffs, no early retirements packages for me. Obsolescence is my place. Liberation is the goal.
