The first thing that I noticed when reading this book was that the words rhyme, which is something children will pick up very quickly when reading a book. I loved this book and how it also can teach children a lesson. This book was about a duck who is very silly and does silly things on the farm. Some of the things Tilly does is take her baths in apple juice, wore pancakes as a hat, and combs her feathers with a rake. One day Sheep says that’s enough and told Tilly she had to stop all her silly stuff. Tilly was very upset and for a few weeks Tilly did not one silly thing on the farm. The chickens were talking one day and said that they have not laughed in a long time and that’s when they knew they needed Tilly and her silly stuff to show more come back. All the farm animals went to Tilly and apologized and asked her to be herself again. Tilly wasted no time and was back to her normal self again soaking her feet in mayonnaise, gluing blue glitter to the plow and many other things. The farm was happy again and all the animals had many laughs with Tilly. This can teach children a lesson that you can’t change who a person is and that that’s what makes them who they are. I think this is a good book to share in the classroom as a fun book to read. show less
I was drawn to Silly Tilly just because of the cover. The duck is in a bath tub with goggles on. How funny? The title speaks for itself. The duck is simply silly. The pages are colorful and full of life. The first page has a duck taking a bath in apple juice. I read this story to my daycare class (two-year olds) and they did not stop laughing the entire story. Since Tilly is always silly and never taking things seriously the other farm animals thinks the farm would be better without Tilly. So,she leaves. The animals realize its boring and dull shortly after and Tilly comes back. Something a young student can take from the book is to always be yourself and not worry about what others think. We also learn how to say sorry if we hurt a show more friends feelings because we wouldn't want anyone sad. show less
Rhymes are very clever and extremely silly. Might work best with a slightly older group of preschoolers (4-5) due to the interesting wordplay, but the younger group I read to today (3-4) laughed at several spots.
Silly Tilly is very silly and does things very differently. The farm thinks things would run better without Tilly so Tilly leaves the farm. The animals enjoy things for a while but then start to miss Tilly and how things use to be. Tilly comes back and the farm is happy again. This would be a great book to read aloud and talk to children about accepting one another. I would use this for grades K-2. The pictures are very fun and bright to look at and the students are sure to fall in love with Tilly.

Summary: Silly Tilly is a book about how a silly goose named Tilly, is always acting out and being silly on the farm where she lives. She is always into some sort of mischief. She never sticks to the status quo, of how a goose should be. She wears pancakes as a hat, tries to ride the farmers cat, and she kisses a fish! After some tricks, the other farm animals decide that they have had enough of Tilly acting silly! They get on the her, and tell her thats enough! "Enough of all her silly stuff!" Then the animals realize how quiet it is on the farm, and how much they miss Tilly's silliness after all! They got apologize to Tilly, and then they all go back to how it was originally on the farm.
Personal Reaction: This book is wonderful! The show more kids ask for this book over and over again. They love the repetition in sounds and words. It's very easy for the kids to relate to Tilly, and her silliness in this book. We all have times where we act a little silly, and thats okay! I love how the animals seem just like humans, in how they act and think and feel. It really is one of my favorites. Also, it teaches the kids about feelings, and how if we hurt of friend with words, we need to apologize and say sorry!
Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. Have the kids think up things, not in the book, that they think Silly Tilly also does around the farm.
2. Let them make their own farm animal puppets, and act out their feelings, how to say sorry if we hurt our friends.
3. Take what Tilly does, like wear a pancake as a hat, ride the farmers cat, and kiss a fish imagine that, and cut out the illustrations and have the kids put them in order. show less

A story about a goose told in a fun rhyming way. This goose is different and marches to the beat of her own drum, while making everyone laugh around her. But when Silly Tilly's jokes and games go to far her farm animal friends tell her to stop her silly nonsense and behave. Well time goes by and no one is laughing or having fun anymore and the animals realize they miss their sweet silly friend, Silly Tilly. The farm animals apologize and things go back to the way they should be. A adorable story about friendship, fun, and how being different is a great thing and to embrace it for we are all different in some way. LOVE!
Silly Tilly... is truly silly. Her personality is vibrant with funny acts. But one day the whole farm gets a little upset with her out of control silliness. Weeks go by without Tilly being silly... and everyone begins to miss her. They apologize for getting mad, and again... Tilly is up to no good!
