I read this over and over when I was a young teenager, it being one of the first romance novels my grandmother handed to me... It's been years since I had read it, and sure, it's not the best book ever written, but its sentiment has held in my bookworm heart. I'm glad I found a copy at the thrift store so I could revisit it, and recall fond memories of my Grandma.
For a Historical era the Author came across very clear...I have always liked the way Catherine Coulter has in this genre....She keeps the generations and cultures of her characters in the streamline of the story...very well organized throughout the era.....The book was interesting and informative of things in that era....Even though the book is fiction, the time is in the past I always learn something new.......

The Countess, (originally The Autumn Countess) by Catherine Coulter. Okay, it was her first novel and it shows, even with her rewrite, but still worth finishing. This was written in the style of Regency Romance with the slight twist that the heroine is independent, both temperament and money. Three stars.
