Carly Linton returns home to Benton, Georgia to open a B&B in her grandmother's old mansion. But a close encounter with a burglar has her running straight into the arms of the hunky Sheriff, Matt Converse, who just happens to be her childhood crush. As Matt and Carly rekindle their romance, a dangerous ghost from Carly's past returns to threaten her happiness.
This earlier work from Robards hits all the high notes - a gorgeous cop hero, a snarky and sexy heroine, a delightful romance, and an intense suspense plot.
Carly and Matt's amazing chemistry sizzles from the start. One cannot help but smile at their witty repartee and snappy comebacks, and their second chances romance is both adorable and sensual.
The show more small-town setting and secondary characters ranging from Carly's BFF to Matt's sisters and their various significant others add another layer of charm to the story. The suspense plot is actions packed with several exciting scenes and Carly, thankfully, never becomes a TSTL heroine.
All in all, an excellent read that reminded me of my early appreciation for Robards' writing. show less

I'm pretty sure I own every Robards novel at this point. Her writing style is what grabs me, and I enjoy that it's not all about the romance in her books. Of course, the romance is surely a lovely addition to every story.
Matt, the Sheriff fell in love with his highschool girlfriend when she returned to the same town to live and start a bed and breakfast in the home her grandmother left to her. Matt's sybilings (sisters)are fun. Carly was attacked along with her roommate and Matt saved her. The adorable dog has been cut with a knife and poisoned. Bless his heart. He is still alive. Carly made Matt jealous and he was mad. I loved their relationship. In the end
This was another good read. Kept you guessing right up till the end.
