"Mouse was mad. Hopping mad," begins Linda Urban's delightful tale of a little mouse struggling to find a way to express his feelings. Unfortunately, Hare happens along, and seeing Mouse's rather small hop, informs him that he looks ridiculous. Discovering that he cannot match Bear's earth-shaking stomp, Bobcat's echoing scream, or Hedgehog's smooth roll, Mouse becomes progressively more angry (and muddy, as his efforts land him in a succession of puddles). Finally, at the end of his rope, he finds his own means of expressing his fury - something none of his animal companions can match!
With a narrative that perfectly expresses the frustration of a young child, struggling to find a satisfactory way of enacting a difficult feeling, and show more adorable illustrations that capture the perverse humor of a temper-tantrum, Mouse Was Mad is a wonderful affirmation of the child's emotional world. Many adults seem to forget how much more intense emotions seem, when we lack the vocabulary and skills to express them, but Urban clearly has not. Thanks to Kathryn, Lisa and Ann, for pointing me towards this one! show less

an adorable wonderfully written semi-social story of how a mouse acted when he was mad. He tried hopping, stomping, screaming, and rolling but all of his animal friends said he was doing it wrong...in the end he tried standing still mad, not moving a muscle mad and he was no longer mad.
Linda Urban brings us the funny, but serious subject of Mouse getting mad. When his friends mis-understand his frustrations for their habits, Mouse gets no help at all. Wonderfully illustrated by Henry Cole, each page is better then the last. Any parent would enjoy reading this to their child, and any child would enjoy reading this them self. I recommend Mouse Was Mad, its a great book about a concept that is rarely discussed.
Mouse Was Mad uses idioms to express how angry Mouse is, and turns it into its literal meaning. The illustrations illustrate the idiom, and the literal meaning. Mouse perseveres in trying to physically express his anger. Mouse’s anger finally gives way to a relaxed feeling.
This text would be useful in explicitly teaching students about the feeling of anger. The use of onomatopoeia’s help to make the text interesting, and could be used to teach onomatopoeia's. Idioms would be another teachable direction with the book. This book supports language learners with text supported illustrations.

Mouse is very mad. When he ends up doing the actions of the other animals, he always ends up failing. He finally succeeds when he doesn't take his anger out on someone else.
This book was about a Mouse who is very mad and is trying to express his anger by stomping, rolling, hopping and screaming. Every time he does this, another one of his animal friends comes along and shows how they are better at doing what he is trying to do. This makes the mouse even more frustrated and he always ends up falling into a mud puddle. In the end of the book the mouse finally calms down and when he does so, all of the animals are impressed by his skills in being so still that they can't even tell he is breathing. Satisfied by his impression on his friends he finally is no longer mad and goes to take a bath.
a silly book about mouse being hopping mad (a hare comes by and shows him how to hop), he was standing still mad, and so on until he realized that he wasn't mad anymore.
silly for fun book.
