Stanley, Diane. Morrow Junior Books, 1990. 32 pp., Hardcover. Grades 2-6.
Jewel-like illustrations replicate the magic of Persian miniature paintings on parchment. The use of a color transparency can be the basis of a lesson on Islamic art as well as a wonderful story. Set in long ago Persia, this is the story of a poor young man who follows the wise advice of his bride-to-be and goes to the city to seek his fortune, finding it in an unexpected way.
