Description
Lauren Ulm is a vegan cook whose star is on the rise. She hosts a popular blog that is read by more than 30, 000 a day. She's a 2008 Veggie Awards winner from VegNews magazine who has been featured on The Martha Stewart Show, AOL, and the hippest sites on the web, including BoingBoing.net and Etsy.com. Now she delights her blog fans, as well as millions of vegetarian and vegan enthusiasts, with this sophisticated four-color cookbook filled with original and the most beloved meals from her show more blog. From appetizers to desserts, breakfasts to dinners, as well as holiday- and company-worthy fare, Ulm proves that vegan food doesn't have to be bland food. It's her love (okay, her obsession!) of making vegan foods exciting that is evident in her creations-recipes that are as artistic as they are quirky. With 90 percent of her ingredients available at any grocery store, her recipes are doable for the average person, and range from comfort-food staples like whoopee pies, macaroni, and blueberry cobbler, to hip foods with modern-day flair like mojito cupcakes, daikon noodle salad, and flaky pizza purse tapas appetizers. With the beautiful photographs her readers have grown to love, Vegan Yum Yum makes healthy cooking more appealing and fun than ever before. Recipes include: lemon cranberry muffins, Moroccan sweet potato homefries, crispy sesame kale, chipotle basil corn chowder, rainbow rice and beans, broccoli sweet and sour tofu, strawberry rhubarb coffee cake, and honeydew coconut tapioca. show lessTags

This rapidly became one of my staple cookbooks. I have not found a single recipe in here that isn't a winner, and I have made more recipes out of this cookbook than I probably have made out of any other single cookbook. Several recipes from this book are in heavy rotation in my house during certain times of the year. Most of the recipes take 30 minutes or less to prepare, and while she does include some from various Asian cuisines, most ingredients are easily obtainable at an ethnic grocer if they're not already on hand in your kitchen. One of the best things about this book is the diversity of dishes, making it a cookbook you can go to several times a week and still enjoy different cuisines. I really hope she is working on another show more book. Highly recommended. show less
I've read this cookbook from cover to cover, and of the 70+ cookbooks in my library this will be one book that I return to over and over again. It's a no-fuss book with tasty recipes that are healthy and very satisfying.
The recipes are simple for the most part, and most vegans or vegetarians will likely already have most or all of the ingredients called for in the recipes. And if you're not vegan or vegetarian, the ingredients and recipes are simple enough for anyone to obtain and create.
It's full-colour with mouth-watering photos on most of the pages. This is a huge help when you just don't know what to make. Also, the table of contents points out at a glance which recipes can be made in 30 minutes or less.
The commentary and show more instruction is easy to follow, casual, and friendly. Ulm does a great job of making her recipes accessible to readers.
And the recipes work out quite well. They're also easily adjustable if you want to make fewer or more servings, or if you just like to tinker with recipes to suite your own tastes. show less

This is an excellent cookbook, hopefully I'll get a copy for Christmas. There are plenty of simple meals to make as well as more difficult, fancy stuff. The cookbook covers breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert and drinks. I love the Vegan Yum Yum blog, and the cookbook is just as good. Full color, glossy pages with huge mouth-watering photos. I have yet to make a VYY recipe that I don't like!
Helped me understand that vegans are not as fanatical as I'd been lead to believe (sorry y'all!). My supervisor, who has gone vegan, recommended this, and hey - she's right! Some really good stuff in here -
