A lusciously lethal novel by the New York Times bestselling author of Sticks & Scones“The main course on Davidson’s latest menu, served with lively pacing and characterization, is satisfying and tasty.”—Publishers Weekly
It should be the happiest day of Goldy’s life. The Colorado caterer is about to tie the knot with the man of her dreams, homicide detective Tom Schultz. But minutes before the ceremony is to begin, Tom phones with an urgent message: The wedding is off, and the show more reason is murder!
Tom was on his way to the church when he stopped to pick up Father Olson—and found the rector shot and dying. Yet by the time Tom’s fellow officers arrive at the crime scene, Tom has disappeared. Has the groom been abducted by the killer? Or has he gotten cold feet and walked out of Goldy’s life?

It was an interesting premise of a mystery, though I have to admit trying to keep track of all the "suspects" did get me confused at times. The ending was satisfying enough though!
This is book # 4 in the Goldy Bear Culinary Mystery series. The Altar Guild ladies seem to have everything under control for the wedding reception, but Goldy just can’t stay out of the kitchen. She SHOULD be dressed by now … because it’s her own wedding. Yes, Goldy and homicide detective Tom Schulz are going to tie the knot. But the pastor is late, the reception hall is locked, and no one else seems to have the keys. Just before the ceremony is to begin Goldy gets a call from Tom – the wedding isn’t going to happen today. Pastor Olson has been murdered. When the police finally arrive at the church they bring even worse news; Tom Schulz is missing, apparently kidnapped by Olson’s killer.
Goldy is a likeable amateur detective, show more but I don’t know anyone who refers to their significant other by his full name. Almost every time Goldy thinks about Tom she uses “Tom Schulz.” This really irritated me after a while. The Episcopal Church also takes quite a hit here; there doesn’t seem to be a single competent clergyman in the group, and the women of the Altar Guild are either controlling shrews or scared little mice. I thought too much time was spent on outlining the fight between the “charismatics” and the “Old Guard” factions.
Still, this was easy to get into and a pretty fast read. Mott offered plenty of suspects, plot twists and recipes to keep me turning pages. show less

We all have heard of wedding disasters. This one beats them all. Imagine on the wedding day, the bride learns from the groom that the minister who is to marry them has just been found murdered. Then the groom goes missing. This is exactly what Goldy experienced. While slow in places, I still enjoyed it. And those delicious sounding recipes make this another winne
Personally, if the priest was killed the day of my wedding, I would have took it as a bad omen. Goldy, as per usual, takes the chaos much better than could normally be expected in The Last Suppers. She was also a dealing with a kidnapped fiance that she is determined to save even if she has no solid leads and no reason to believe she is anything other than a distraction to the investigation. The Last Suppers is more hectic and frantic than most Goldy Culinary Mysteries and the emotions shown in the wake of the chaos are barely recognizable. At least the recipes, especially the Shrimp on Wheels and the Chocolate Truffle Cheesecake, sound delicious. There were some religious terms that never heard and couldn't find the motivation to look show more up, which isn't a good sign. It wasn't the greatest Goldy Culinary Mystery, but fans of the series will want to see for themselves what happened on Goldy and Tom's wedding day. show less
Goldy is getting married. Or is she? The priest has not arrived, nor has her fiancee. When her fiancee calls at the last minute saying the priest has been murdered, rumors begin to fly at the Episcopal church. Things only get worse for Goldy as she discovers her fiancee is now missing. She is told to sit still and wait, but her mind won't let her. Being an active woman who makes her living at catering, she throws herself into cooking and trying to figure out what is happening in her church family. This book has numerous recipes, some of which I intend to copy and try. I found it to be a good read. Some of the character's reactions didn't ring true for me, and I have another bone to pick which would be a spoiler, but for the most part I show more enjoyed reading this and intend to read more. I won't be keeping it on my shelves, because I don't think I will need to read it again, but I'll happily share and recommend it to friends as a fun cozy mystery. show less
Goldy Bear, caterer, is getting married to Tom Schulz, homicide detective. Goldy belongs to the Aspen Meadow Episcopalian Church. She is also catering several committee meetings at the church. There are warring factions in the church: the old school vs. the charismatics. Rev. Olson is a charismatic and locally known for the possible miracle of healing the sick. He is also involved with a married member of the church. One the day of their wedding, Tom calls Goldy to tell her that he is picking up Rev. Olson. However, neither Tom or Ted Olson show up at the church. The police go out to check and find the body of Ted Olson, but no Tom. Tom has been kidnapped. With Tom missing and the wedding on hold, Goldy does what she does best: cook and show more snoop for clues. The church is awash with turmoil.
I found this to be a decent fast moving read. There is a lot of religion and not much humor, which is unusual for this series. show less

Goldy and Tom are just about to tie the knot when murder interposes. I kept thinking, "how is she still functioning when she's had NO sleep". Some mysteries make sense when you look at them the right way. This one didn't make as much sense - but then some people are just crazy and there is no understanding them.
