This is a highly original fantasy, moreso because of the characters. While they are somewhat archetypes, they still have unique strength and character. The plot featuring people from Earth in a fantasy realm isn't terribly original, but the rest of the plot elements are excellent. For some reason, the characters of Springbuck, Hightower, Angorman and the others stay with you long after you've read this book and its predecessor. Best of all, this is a two book series that actually ends, even if you don't want it to be over.

This is from back in the days when fantasy series didn't wear you out with too many words, its definitely worth reading.
Gil MacDonald and Prince Springbuck lead an army to defeat the evil wizard Yardiff Bey. After Bey kidnaps his friend, Gil journeys to the sinister city of Shardishku-Salama.
