In the Forest

I have a soft spot for books about little boys with big imaginations. This is a good one with charming black and white illustrations of a little boy leading a parade through the forest. I enjoyed the memory of playing Drop- The- Handkerchief with my grandmother and her friends 40+ years ago.

This was a lovely book to read to my 2 1/2 year old grandson. I had recently taught him about parades, and he had just visited the zoo with his parents this past weekend. All of this was captured in reading this book after which I made him a triangular hat out of newspaper. Too bad I didn't also have a horn.

I love the illustrations, some of which are true-to-life, such as monkeys hanging by their tails from tree branches, and others which are silly, such as a lion combing his hair/mane. I like the black-and-whiteness of the pictures which gives the reader a chance to imagine the colors within a forest. I'm of the" old school" where .I like to leave a lot up to a toddler's imagination. I like this book "oodles". :)

A nice picture book of a child's imaginary time before bed, and the animals he meets in the forest along the way. Black and white pictures.

Before bedtime, this young fellow goes on an imaginary walk through the forest and all the animals that follow along.
