Mrs. Thrale (1741-1821) was an English socialite and friend of Samuel Johnson. After her first husband's death, she married a music teacher and became Mrs. Piozzi. She also published her diaries, letters, and memoirs of Dr. Johnson, which serve as an important source of information about him and 18-century life.
