A delightful little book with engravings to illustrate topics such as Spreading manure, Threshing walnuts, Nutting, Catching a horse, Making fagots and hurdles, the Higgler, Gathering apples etc. Pity about a missing page or two, tears and other signs of use! But what child or adult wouldn't have flicked back and forth through this?
This is the sort of book I like. it is falling to bits; from a handwritten inscription on the title page it seems to have been given by Harriet Sykes to Mary White in Torquay in February 1816. It hascheerful hymns such as About dying, A child's lamentation for the death of a dear mother, A child's grave - `Alas poor baby, did it die?How dismal that must be', Let's get back home and have a cup of tea.
Book that talks about a family's experience with a new baby during the first year. Would be fitting for a preschooler who is about to be a big brother/sister.
