Short biography
Trish Cooke (born 1962) is a British playwright, actress, television presenter, scriptwriter and children's author. She was a presenter on the children's series Playdays. She also wrote under the pseudonym Roselia John Baptiste.

Cooke was born in Bradford. Her parents were from Dominica, part of the Windrush generation. She gained a BA in Performing Arts from Leeds Polytechnic before moving to London in 1984 to pursue an acting career. She worked as a stage manager for the Black Theatre Co-operative (now NitroBeat) for six months, and after receiving her Equity card worked as an actor in London. In 1988 she received a Thames Television Writers Bursary and began a writing residency at the Liverpool Playhouse. Between 1988 and 1996 she was a presenter and scriptwriter for Playdays on Children's BBC. She also write scripts for EastEnders, Doctors, The Real McCoy and Brothers and Sisters. In 1989 the company Temba staged her play Back Street Mammy, which explored adolescent sexuality and the dilemmas of unplanned pregnancy. In Running Dream a woman returns to Dominica to find both differences and close ties between her and the sisters she left behind there. Both plays use a chorus to comment on the action. Trish was the Writer in Residence at the Bush Theatre from 2019 to 2021 and is a Royal Literary Fund fellow.

Cooke's children's book So Much (1994) won the 0–5 category of the Nestle Smarties Book Prize, the She/WH Smith's Under-Fives Book Prize and the Kurt Maschler Award. It was also Highly Commended for the Kate Greenaway Medal and was shortlisted for both the Sheffield Children's Book Award and the Nottinghamshire Children's Book Award.

Her series of inter-racial adaptations of children's fairy tales have been popular at the Theatre Royal Stratford East. Cinderella (2007) was the first pantomime to be nominated for an Olivier Award.

Omg, why isn't this better known? Come on for #OwnVoices! and it's *so* adorable, and it shows Black family ties and joy. And know that Cooke has said that Oxenbury did such a great job with the art that she even recognizes members of her extended family in the artwork.

I'm trying to catch up on Oxenbury, and now I have to catch up on Trish Cooke, too.!
The relatives come over in ones and twos, and everyone loves playing with the baby, because they love him So Much! We eventually see why they're visiting, in this lovely book about familial joy.

A couple images did take me aback. One of the two cousins is described as an aside as "Big Cousin Ross," who is in the background and doesn't interact with the baby. He's shown as heavy set and kind of tired-looking, with half-lidded eyes. Later he's shown with a little butt crack showing, and in show more another picture with a chicken leg in hand - just felt fat phobic to me. The other image is when Daddy first comes home and the whole group surrounds him, and two different family members are rubbing his hair. Again, felt off to me, but perhaps I'm looking too far into it. show less
Jay Jay enjoys his extended family's weekly dinner at Grannie's in this heartfelt picture-book celebration of food, familial love, and the special bond between grandmother and grandson. Dropped off beforehand by his mother, he and Grannie keep themselves occupied - or rather, Grannie keeps him occupied, in the face of his constant questioning about dinner - until the rest of the family arrives, and the house is overflowing. A house full of relatives, a family full of good cooking, and hearts show more full of love - all are to be found at Grannie's!

Full, Full, Full of Love is a heart-warming tale of a boy and his grandmother, one which offers an engaging depiction of a close-knit extended family. Trish Cooke, a British actress and author - she was born in West Yorkshire, although her parents were from the island of Dominica - presents a narrative that reads well, while artist Paul Howard's pencil and acrylic illustrations are colorful and appealing, particularly his expressive faces! All in all, a book I would recommend to young readers who enjoy family stories, or to anyone looking for picture-books about the grandparent-grandchild bond.

What a heartwarming and loving story! After reading this wonderful little book, I felt full of love myself (and like my LT friend Lisa, quite hungry and definitely ready for supper). I love the fact that while this book is about a joyful and loving contemporary African American family, this could have been a story about any loving family, about any loving grandmother; it is truly universal. I especially appreciate the fact that the grandmother is able to distract Jay Jay when he says that he show more is hungry, that she will not simply allow him to snack between meals; she obviously knows that this will likely only spoil his appetite for the large family supper she is preparing. Grandma does not give in to Jay Jay's pleas about being hungry and wanting a snack, but she also does not simply say "no" but uses love and personal attention to distract her grandson until suppertime, awesome. Recommended for anyone, but especially recommended for grandmothers and grandfathers to share with their grandchildren. show less
