This one was really good ... until it wasn’t. Brett and Emma had an amazing start. We met Brett a couple of books ago. He is a Lieutenant at the fire station where Bass and Denver also work. His wife checked out of the marriage after having their son and ends up filing for divorce, leaving Brett and their son. Brett meets Emma when she and some coworkers are taken hostage at the school where she works. Brett is one of the firemen on the scene who ends up rescuing her. He tries to ignore show more the connection they felt, but when she brings baked treats to the fire house to thank them, they end up being in each others lives. But she refuses to date a fireman because of what happened to her fireman father on 9/11. But Brett eventually worms his way into her heart. And even convinces her to start dating him. But after a near tragedy terrifies Emma, she refuses to have anything more to do with Brett. She does eventually get a wake up call and they do eventually get there happily ever after.

The beginning parts of this book were really good. The part for the hostage situation and the beginning stages of their courtship were great. The return of his ex-wife was hilarious because she really thought she could get Brett back. But by this point Brett hated her, and Emma played along to help drive the woman crazy. But Emma still pushed him away and the more she pushed him away, the more annoying she became. And then finally there was a time where I wanted him to just leave her because she was just too far gone. Her deep seated issues were too much to overcome. Her only saving grace was her daughter Evie. Evie and Brett had an amazing friendship and honestly, I think she was the reason Brett was so patient with Emma for so long.

Emma was very frustrating, but Brett loved her. But because he loved her, he really let her walk all over him for far too long. But he loved her, and at the end of the day he finally gets her. This may end the series about the firemen, but I believe the rockstar series is next and I believe Brett’s sister will be back in that one. So it will be interesting to see her find her love.

This book was way too heavy for my light read needs. It was absolutely heartbreaking and not in a good way. I know we always need a fight or a misunderstanding, but then I want my lovers to make up after a couple of days, maybe weeks, months is a stretch. Here we have YEARS apart. It would be maybe less painful if it was only the hero and the heroine (they are still young), but there is also a kid who didn't have a father for the first SEVEN years of his life! That's really heavy. No matter show more what happens next, their HEA will be tainted with this lost time.

There were a lot of other things that bothered me in this story. The main plot was sad enough, there was really no need to add more drama on top. I don't understand why Gavin had married Karen and I don't understand why Callie had to die - seriously, this little boy had enough on his plate already.

Also I'm just not buying how a couple so much in love and with such incredible connection could let someone ruin their happiness so easily. They didn't even TRY to fight for each other! It's just not possible. And then she still loved him but didn't even let him know that he had a son??? And nobody else did either? Her parents or sisters? This Chris guy? He punched him in the face and somehow failed to mention why? That's just infuriating!

I need to calm down... Why does this series have such high rating?? I admit that the writing is good, but the story.. Kill-me-now...

I know what I'm going to do, I'm going to reread Plan B by Jana Aston now to cure this book food poisoning.

This one wasn’t for me. I hated how this series ended. I hated everything about Garrett and Reece’s story. I hated Reece mostly. I know that people need to forgive and move on, but this was a lot. It was too much that Garrett was expected to forgive and forget about. For me, it was how he had no one on his side. Everyone treated him like he just needed to get over someone accidentally stepping on his toe or something. But Reece literally tore his whole life apart. And the really sad part show more is that he didn’t even know the half of what she had done to him.

Here’s the biggest thing. I get that Reece was young when all of the bad stuff happened. But she made terrible life choices and blamed them on Garrett. And I get that she was upset when she found out about her song. But given all that she did, going after the band with a high priced attorney was an ... interesting move. And it taints all of the success that she achieved in my eyes. And it made me hate everything about her relationship with Garrett. Garrett deserved so much better. Better from his parents, from his own brother, even from his bandmates.

This was just a disappointing way to end this.

This has to be the hardest book I've read in a while. There is so much loss and grief. Both Dallas and Martina know the feeling of losing a loved one.

I cried so so much trying to get through the first couple chapters. My heart was so broken for Dallas and i completely understand why he "ran away" to his cabin. I would want the same thing. The was he took care of Martina after he finds her in. Martina is on her way to her son when she crashes her car during a winter storm. Dallas opens up show more his home to her until the storm passes. They just don't know they have so much in common until they start opening up to each other.

I have been really enjoying this authors writing. She covers hard topics, but it's real. With a HEA!
