Good classic work, if you can look past the colonialism and racism and sexism of the time/tales.
This was my first Gothic Fantasy/Flame Tree Publishing book. I actually never finished it, but from what I read (as with all anthologies) the stories were hit and miss. I'm difficult to scare, but that doesn't mean some of the stories are bad or low quality. I got half way through it because I got distracted by other books. There's several that I thought were passable and decent. Perhaps one day I'll continue reading it to see what other stories it offers.
Favorite story: The New Catacomb by show more Arthur Conan Doyle
All of Flame Tree's anthologies are produced with attractive, lovely high-quality hard covers that sparks the intrigue and adoration of any gothic and dark fantasy fan.
As this is an anthology, it's best recommended to judge for yourself since there is a diversity range found within the covers. show less
