Joanna says in the first chapter, “Just mention the names Mary and Martha around a group of Christian women and you’ll get knowing looks and nervous giggles. We’ve all felt the struggle. We want to worship like Mary, but the Martha inside keeps bossing us around.” Isn’t that true?
Throughout this book, Joanna takes us on a journey, her journey, our journey, from being in a kitchen surrounded by menus, grocery lists, dishes, and all the junk that seems to accumulate on the counters show more and the kitchen table, to the living room, sitting calmly at the foot of Jesus, soaking in every word and not feeling guilty about our “to do lists”.
She finally ends this book with a revelation that you can do both, it doesn’t have to be one or the other, so long as we put Jesus first then “both of us” can become one. Surrendering all to Jesus. The struggle doesn’t end, we are after all humans and we constantly fail, but we have Jesus to pick us up, dust us off, and say “Follow me”.
You’ll love this book, just like I did. The writing was excellent and the stories compelling. You’ll want, just like me, to go out and get her other books. show less

Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World: Finding Intimacy With God in the Busyness of Life by Joanna Weaver
I really enjoyed this book, and not only because the author had a lot of insight, but she wrote from the perspective of learning along with the reader. I could identify with her struggles and discoveries. I took my time reading this, not even a chapter a day, but more like a section a day. No pressure, and a chance to think about the lessons to learn. I highly recommend this book.
Having a Mary heart in a Martha world : finding intimacy with God in the busyness of life by Joanna Weaver
A beautiful and compelling book written for anyone who is searching for peace in this crazy world we live in today.
The story of Mary and Martha is inspirational and remarkably relatable, considering the years that have passed between then and now. This story is for anyone who is looking for a stronger relationship with Jesus and even for those who maybe are still unsure about it. A must read.

Six years after her first book "Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World: Finding Intimacy with God in the Business of Life", Joanna Weaver wrote this meaningful book which focuses on allowing God to change us for our own good and for his purposes. I have to say, it was well worth the wait.
I read this book as part of women's Bible study. We read and studied other Christian books, but none of the others impacted me the way this book did. This book changed me in so many ways.
As I read this book show more Joanna Weaver felt like an old. She is humerous and honest. She is incrediby candid regarding her failures and short comings. She faces the same challenges many of us face. She also isn't afraid to tell you the way it is as she see it.
I do think Weaver accomplished her goals. As a result of reading this book, I want to walk closed with God, and I want to live better for him.
I would definately recommend this book to any Christian woman. You may even find yourself rereading it over and over as I do.
I promise you will not be disappointed. show less
