This story is about a young Navajo boy named Kee, who, with his family, is being forced to leave their ancestral home in Arizona for an internment camp almost 300 miles away. Kee's father is not with them, so Kee helps to care for his mother, grandmother, and sister on the long, difficult journey. They end up staying at the internent camp for four years before being allowed to return to their home. Kee makes many discoveries about himself and others, and he wonders if he will ever be able to show more return to their old way of life.
