Louis Sandy Maisel

This book was first published in 2007, came out in a second edition in 2016, and then a third edition in 2022. The third one, which I am looking at now, shows clear signs that the author had succumbed to TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome). It would be interesting to compare the editions and it is fairly likely that earlier editions are just more useful. But one must do one's best with what is available.

3734. Jews in American Politics Editors: L. Sandy Maisel & Ira N. Forman (read 20 Apr 2003) I know, this is a reference book, but it was of such interest I read it cover to cover. There are 14 essays on Jews in American political life, and about 400 short biographies of Jews in American politics. I was struck that not till 1916 was a Jew named a Federal judge, when Brandeis was put on the Supreme Court, and not till FDR's time was a Jew appointed to a lesser Federal court. There have been 17 show more Jewish governors, but only one in New York and none in California, and 27 Jewish senators, with ten presently serving. Solid overview of the American Political system and all its foibles. Useful to have a good understanding of the Electoral College before the next couple of weeks...
