Not bad - a sweet romance, though I wanted to slap her, and occasionally him, throughout. Talk to each other, people! She's lying her head off, when he'd be jumping to help her if she told him - of course, if she had told him, she might not have stayed long enough to fall in love with him and his family. He's not telling her what he knows, either - which is not much, for most of the book, but still. Her plan was a rather nasty one, and worked only in the abstract - as soon as there were show more people involved, it fell apart. Jonathan was pulling a trick on her, too, not telling her about Jane and Lucy. I don't know. Sweet, eventually, but the twists and turns they had to go through to get there...I'm glad it didn't end when she found them, she had to actually deal with real people again. That's what makes it worth reading, that the characters are quite solid, and have their own motives that they hold to. Glad I read it, but I doubt I'll reread; I'm willing to read others by her, but I don't think I'll seek them out. Too much manipulation for my taste. show less
Britt Hansen is a widow, struggling to keep her dairy farm and raise her four young children. Jake Marshack has been sent by Winnebago Dairy to collect on Britt's overdue account. He doesn't count on falling for her and helping her start a low-fat goats' milk yogurt and cheesecake business. He likes his life just fine and if he can collect on Britt's account or convince her to sell her farm to the dairy, he'll make vice president. Of course Britt goes ballistic when she finds out his "true show more motives" but of course, it was all a misunderstanding. Jake gets a bit high-handed for my taste in "rescuing" Britt and also jumping in to "parent" her kids, but it is obvious she needs help. This isn't my favorite of the series, but it wasn't terrible, either. show less
When Josie Cross' husband is murdered, she is falsely accused and her sons are stolen. By the time she has proven her innocence and begun to search for her children rumor has them across the country in California. Her lawyer's request from Adam Scofield in Sacramento, CA, for a proper wife to help raise his daughters seems a perfect opportunity to continue her search. Josie seems to fit perfectly into Adam's family and the girls love her, but he suspects that she harbors secrets. When a show more rumor causes Josie to take off on her search, their marriage seems threatened. It takes a lot of understanding, forgiveness and love to bring about this happy ending. Well done historical set in 1886. show less
This is one of my favorites of the series. Britt Hansen has four kids and is trying to keep her head above the water when Jake Marshack comes to her farm to discuss a past due debt that she owes Winnebago Dairy. He has never been married and likes his life the way it is. The children make the book fun and Jake & Britt have a strong connection right away. Of course, in this series you have the good folks of Tyler weighing in along with plenty of misunderstandings. It is fun to see Jake slowly show more change his way of thinking on how the rest of his life will play out. show less
