This is a delightful take on the feeding-a-dragon-meals-to-wean-him-off-humans plot. It's the details that give this story it's charm - the dragon show more getting glasses, Oscar riding a donkey to his doom whilst wearing a baseball cap backwards. Krause's long-nosed people are the perfect mixture of silly and dramatic and the lengthier parts of the story are beautifully paced so younger children won't lose interest.

Verdict: Definitely add this to your dragon picture books! A new story time favorite! show less

This book is about a family of bandits. The mother and father begin to fight a lot and decide to separate. The kids start go back and forth to their parents’ houses. One day everything changes. The dad meets a princess and her and her children move in. None of the children get along at first, but they eventually learn to love each other. The mom eventually gets a dragon boyfriend with dragon children. The entire family eventually gets along and even has parties together. Ute Krause did a show more great job creating this book! He writes about problems that real families go through, which is different than your typical perfect family illusion most children’s books portray. I also really enjoyed the humor that this book contained! show less

Here's an imaginative and relatively quick read about a group of brothers and their eccentric parents.

On a personal note, reading ¿Cuándo se irán estos? was a humorous reminder for me of not seeing the forest for the trees. My Spanish language level is beginner enough that it takes a significant amount of my concentration just to decipher single words and sentences. At one point though I took a metaphorical step back, considered the story as a whole, and realized this book is a child's show more perspective what it's like to be shuttled between two households because your parents got a divorce. A modern family indeed. show less

Herwig Hase der Dritte wurde über viele Jahre lang vom Zauberer Hokus van Pokus für begeisterte Zuschauer aus dem Hut gezaubert. Doch eines Morgens findet der kleine Hase nur noch einen Abschiedsbrief von seinem besten Freund vor. Hokus hinterlässt ihm Zauberhut, -Stab und -Buch und fordert ihn auf in die Welt hinauszugehen. Beim Versuch den großen Zauberer zurückzuwünschen erscheint stattdessen die Elefantin Elsie im Wohnzimmer. Nun muss sich der kleine Angsthase in die Welt show more außerhalb seines Zuhauses begeben um Hokus zu suchen.

Die Erzählung ist niedlich und kindgerecht und dürfte auch kleinen menschlichen „Angsthasen“ Mut machen sich ins Unbekannte zu wagen, Fehler zu machen und (vermeintlichen) Gefahren endgegenzutreten. Herwig kannte ja nur die Zaubershows und das Haus, das er mit Hokus bewohnt. Deshalb nennt er die Welt außerhalb "Das Große Unbekannte" oder "Das Lärmende Draußen", ganz zu schweigen von der "Großen Gefahr", die überall lauern könnte. Einige Situationen sind wirklich amüsant geschrieben. Wenn auch für mich die Handlung größtenteils ziemlich vorhersehbar ist, las sie sich ganz kurzweilig.

Die Autorin hat die bunten Illustrationen auf allen Doppelseiten selbst gezeichnet, die die Geschichte sehr schön gestalten.

Zum Vorlesen mit Bilderanschauen eignet sich das Buch eben so gut wie für ältere Kinder zum Lesenüben. show less
