BEWARE! This biography has been described as "a tissue of lies". It was shown in 1990 by Crane scholars Paul Sorrentino and John Clendenning that Thomas Beer freely invented incidents and associates in Crane's life, as well as forging from scratch dozens of letters from Crane. Not only does this make this biography worthless, except as a curiosity, but it infected later Crane biographies, for instance those by John Berryman (1950) and RW Stallman (1968), with misinformation. If you want a show more Crane bio there are at least two major ones written since the discrediting of Thomas Beer: Christopher Benfey's (1992) and Paul Sorrentino's (2014). show less
