A thorough biography that follows Cezanne's life from childhood until his death. This book is very informative with regards to Cezanne's friendships and influences. But, even more, Rewald is an incredible writer. The prose is excellent down to the last chapter.
I read this years ago. May be now a bit dated, but still a very solid and complete account of Impressionism. I should read it again.
Briefly describes the background of the Steins, explains how they became involved in promoting Paul Cezanne, and looks at their connection with other impressionist painters.
The eighteenth of the Walter Neurath Memorial Lectures; Presentation copy in slipcase; Discusses the relationship between Cezanne and siblings Michael, Gertrude, and Leo Stein.
