Perhaps the greatest technical book I have ever read. Greenspun's ideas are well-formulated, and ever-so-well presented.
Also offered as a free download from his website, photo.net, the book is a treasure trove of information from the early years of the internet boom, and is lovingly garnered with dozens of professional photographs, taken by the author. Excellent work, if a little niche.

Very much before it's time, this book looks at database-based web publishing and presents a philosophy that was "Web 2.0" before Web 2.0 really existed. I wish I'd known enough programming to make real use of this book when I got it. Beautiful photography as well.
This was an odd combination between a coffee table web development book.
Greenspun had his head on straight in the high-flying late 90's, and some of his advice is still useful today.
His use of AOLServer made some of his lessons useful immediately, but that didn't affect the points he was trying to get across.
