Reviews
Originally written by 1933 but reprinted seven times since. William was a success story by knightly standards having risen from the rank of a landless fourth son, to being the ruler of a large part of Ireland, a hunk of the Welsh border, and Regent of England during a French invasion bent on deposing the infant Henry III. He defeated that invasion, of course. He is unusual in that he is a non-noble to begin with, one of the few who has an identity not connected to his landholdings, but to show more his accomplishments. He was a very astute player of court politics as well as a champion on the battlefield. show less
