I received an ebook free of charge from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

What a refreshing book! I am so glad I had a chance to read this story because I enjoyed it very much! I wasn't aware when I requested it that it was the second in a series, but it can easily be read as a stand alone. After reading this one, though, I am definitely going to go back and read the first book, because if it was half as good as this one, then I know I'm going to love it!

Serena Boyd has had 'fits', show more or seizures, since she was born. Unfortunately, the book is set in Scotland in a time when anybody who had the falling disease (as epilepsy was called back then) was thought to be possessed by the devil, and many were burned at the stake as witches. For this reason, Serena's mother, Evelina, runs away from her husband to a place where she and Serena can hide out, a place full of misfits that outsiders call The Village of Outcasts. There Serena is raised to be a very kind Christian girl who is loved by all those in the village. Unfortunately, someone is terrorizing the villagers for unknown reasons, so the king sends Gavin MacKenzie, his brother, Leith, and their men to go undercover and find out what's going on. They are working at Braigh castle, restoring and rebuilding it, while also trying to figure out if something untoward happened to the old Laird, and to protect the new Laird, Iain MacBraigh. On their way there, Gavin meets Evelina and Serena, who had a 'fit' and fell off of their wagon, hitting her head. Gavin falls for Serena, but Serena is so scared of anyone finding out about her problem that she tries to keep him at arm's length. That works fine, until she has a fit not only in front of Gavin, but in front of the whole town of people, who denounce her for being possessed.

There is so much more to this story that I can't even begin to get into here! The characters are so well fleshed out that you feel like you know them, and the writing is excellent. The story moves along at a quick pace as there is always something going on. The romance is sweet and Gavin makes an excellent hero!

I can't wait to go back and read the first book, Highland Blessings, and I will be waiting anxiously for the next book to come out! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Leith will get his own story one day :D

"For Love or Loyalty" takes place in Scotland in 1760 and involves two feuding families: the Campbells and the MacGregors. When Duncan Campbell oversteps his position and ruins Malcolm MacGregor's home and family, Malcolm decides he will seek revenge, and that means using Duncan's daughter, Lauren, to get it.

Fast-paced and fully captivating, I found myself lost in the past and totally involved with both Malcolm and Lauren who both ended up being victims of Duncan's wrath and sick sense of show more justice. As the story unfolds, I became truly in love with both Malcolm and Lauren. Lauren because of her patience, love and faith and Malcolm because he was a very good and honorable "mon" underneath all the anger he felt caused by Duncan's horrible deed. As Malcolm spends time thinking and seeing the Lord move through Lauren, he slowly realizes his actions have consequences that are just as bad as what Duncan did to his family.

This book is a must read for any fan of Scottish or early Colonial history as well as those who enjoy great Christian fiction. The Christian message is not over the top but is placed well throughout the story. It is realistic and is where it would be most used in certain situations: death, sickness, danger, etc. It is also realistic in the fact that some characters question where God was when things happened. Because of this, I think that even a secular audience would enjoy the storyline without feeling preached to.

This book/new series comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

This ebook was provided by the author in conjuction with FIRST Wild Card Tours. I was not required to provide a favorable review, but instead on that reflects my honest opinion.

A story about Quaker families who help slaves escape to freedom. Flora is a young woman who finds herself on her first mission to help transport two slaves, the woman ready to give birth at any time. Flora though finds herself having to travel with Bruce, who is a man now, but who made fun of her growing up and who is finding it hard to forgive and forget and trust him now. These two people were fun to watch as they learned to understand each other. Bruce kept saying the wrong thing and show more Flora kept misunderstanding most everything he said to her. So the sparring that went on between the two was fun to watch because you knew how it is eventually going to end. Although the story has the serious side of freeing slaves and the danger it involves, it also had a romantic side of watching two people try too hard to dislike the other, when all along they are attracted to each other. Another good story in this series. show less

PATH OF FREEDOM by Jennifer Hudson Taylor is an intriguing inspirational historical fiction. Book 3 in the "Quilts of Love" series, but can be read as a stand alone. "In the "Quilts of Love" series, each of the books focuses on a particular quilt design around which the story unfolds".

"Path of Freedom" is the story on Flora Saferight and Bruce Milikan,Quakers who embark on a journey in the Underground Railroad. Filled with struggles, trials, love, faith, treachery, uncertainty, constant danger and a show more desire to help free slaves. This particular quilt is the Midnight Star, Flora's mother's quilt, which is used as a guide to their final destination. Jim and Marta,a slave couple who is pregnant,is seeking freedom. The four of them embark on a dangerous journey to freedom. Filled with tension,a bit of humor,Flora and Millikan hold childhood animosity, but can they put the difference aside long enough to get Jim and Marta to their destination. Ms. Taylor has written a story with engaging characters who will grip your heart with their strength and courage. She makes you feel the danger on each page,as Flora and Milikan just may find love along the Underground Railroad. Received for an honest review from the publisher and Wynn-Wynn Media,LLC.
