A quick read that I wish had been around a decade ago. Understanding the convergence of autistic, queer, and trans experiences has been invaluable for me this year, and has helped me come to understand and accept a part of myself I never expected to meet so far down the road of my transition. It does feel like a lot of the writing is *for* trans people aimed *at* cis people, if that makes any sense, but not in a bad way. It just makes me consider how much I wish our writers and artists show more weren't always having to explain, justify, or entertain with our existence to cis people.

Getting away from the point - if you've been asking as a queer or trans person about yourself, your experiences, and why they seem and feel so different from the world around you, and whether or not you may be neurodivergent, please give it a spin. The same if you just want to learn more, or support someone in your life.

The strength of this book was definitely its diversity, so while the first handful of stories are all white and in the UK, there are also stories from all over the world, both inside and outside of Christian contexts, and with wildly differing views on gender. There are authors who seem entirely wedded to the gender binary and authors on a mission to queer all of it they can. Very "beginner friendly" in that you don't have to have much or any familiarity with trans issues or terminology in show more order to follow right along. Somehow there ended up being a lot more dysphoria and trauma than I expected, as each essay put their euphoric moment in context of all that went before. My favorite essay was definitely "The Radical Vulnerability of Trans Sex," as I loved the way the author, Katherine Cross, writes. I will have to seek out more of her writing after this! show less

This book should be in every library. It’s a very simple but heartwarming look at a child knowing they are not who they are made to look like. In this case, Nisha knows she’s a girl and it’s now up to the rest of the world to know as well. The way this book uses a monster to show Nisha‘s feelings, and how that monster grows when people take actions both purposely and accidentally to mis-gender her is a metaphor that works for the anxiety that is really felt. The story is simply show more wonderful and the help for parents in the back are phenomenal. The illustrations are adorable and attention grabbing. This should be a standard book in every school and public library. show less
