Short biography
Dante Gabriel Rossetti was a co-founder of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood in 1848, and inspired a generation of artists and writers. His work often used medieval themes and featured women; his muses and frequent models were his sister Christina Rossetti, his wife Elizabeth (Lizzy) Siddal, Fanny Cornforth, and Jane Morris. Dante Gabriel Rossetti influenced the Symbolists and was a major precursor of the Aesthetic movement.

His poetry and painting were closely connected -- he often wrote poems to accompany his pictures.

I saw Corpse Bride right after I read this sonnet sequence, so Burton's film is entangled with Rossetti's dead lady imagery in my mind. Also, this book inspired a couple sonnets of my own--helped me grow as a poet.
I have to admit, I'm not a big fan of poetry. But having said that, this collection of sonnets from Dante Gabriel Rosetti was an enjoyable read. Poems range from the very innocent to the incredibly intimate in content, but what I liked the most was the language used. It's easy to get lost in these words, and that's not a wholly unpleasant experience.
The beautiful, tragic, and influential poetry of Dante Gabriel Rosetti. Poems from 1870, sonnets and songs, "The House of Life, and others provides for the reader the best of this great poet.
Worn out, loose covers, from Linne, Index, Index to 1st lines. I knew he was a painter, didn't realize he was also a poet.
