This is a good resource for learning German vocabulary. It is based on recent word frequency research, and includes the 4000 most frequently used words in German.
In most cases the English translation and the sentence with the word will be a good introduction to meaning and usage. However I found a few cases where this is not the case. Sometimes a word with multiple meanings had only one listed - and not the one used in the sentence. In some cases a small tweak would have been more useful. show more To translate 'halb' as 'half' and then give a sentence including 'halb sechs' does not give the meaning, but if (17:30) had been added it would have. If I were using this book to help me learn German I would want a good teacher to take me through the lsts as I learnt them. show less

My German textbook for first-year College German. It is what it is. Seems to have suffered throughout the editions, as things which have not yet been introduced in earlier chapters are referenced, despite being later in the book.
