I am always of two minds regarding Eyewitness books...they provide a LOT of information, are filled with TONS and TONS of photos, illustrations and diagrams, and are visually stimulating...the down side is that while the information is divided into sections like What is a Frog, Frogs in Water, All Fingers and Toes Curious Colors, Strange Shapes and so on...it's a little confusing and jumbles. At best, this junior series of the Eyewitness books is best as a starter or overview of frogs and show more toads in general...it provides a plethora of factoids about these animals and lots of photos and illustrations of while frogs/toads and close ups of things like feet, eyes, skin, and mouths to illustrate the facts laid out in the text. The down side is that it tires to cover so much that all the information is brief, no more than a tidbit here and a tidbit there, you will not find more detailed "profiles" of any one species or group, but your young reader will come away from this book with a solid idea of the variety of frogs and toads in the world and with a lot of curiosity about all the amazing things they never new before. I give it four stars, it's an excellent starting point for any young reader curious about frogs and toads...at the very least, it should give him or her some help in narrowing down what types of frogs/toads they might like to learn more about. show less
This book details all kinds of information about amphibians. It goes into their life cycle, their habitat, survival instincts and more. This book would be appropriate for fourth to sixth graders. This book could be used on an animal study where students research a specific animal. This book could also be used to show students the different types of habitats and animals that live in them. This book has lots of captions for students to read and it also has a table of contents and an index.
Examines the evolution, behavior, physical chareristics, and life cycle of all kinds of amphibians.
