I’ve reached for many devotionals over the years, but few have become a steady presence on my desk like Daily Joy. This isn’t a book of fleeting inspiration or stories anchored in personal feeling… every page is rooted in Scripture and God’s unchanging truth. For me, that makes all the difference.

The structure is simple and strong: 365 daily readings, each drawn directly from the ESV Women’s Devotional Bible and crafted by over fifty faithful writers… names I already trust, like show more Joni Eareckson Tada, Lydia Brownback, Jen Wilkin, Sam Storms, Nancy Guthrie, and more. I love knowing that every morning I’ll meet a different voice, but always find the same gospel clarity.

This devotional consistently stays grounded in the Bible itself. I appreciate that the focus is on God’s Word, not shifting circumstances or anecdotes. I find myself keeping a notebook nearby, jotting down encouraging lines, phrases, and truths I want to hold onto.

The topics are both deep and timely: grace, redemption, idolatry, justice, Jesus and the law, and so much more… never shying away from the harder realities of sin and suffering, always returning to Christ and His finished work. Every book of the Bible is touched, and every entry draws us back to the centrality of God’s redeeming love.

Every devotion is thoughtfully crafted, prayerfully written, and doctrinally sound, making it a trustworthy companion for anyone who desires to grow in faith.

Aesthetically, this devotional is a gift in itself. It is beautifully bound, inviting you to leave it out and return to it often. But the real treasure, of course, is in the daily rhythm: Word, reflection, and prayer, all pointing me to my precious Lord and Savior who never changes.

If you’re looking for a devotional that’s more than motivational stories or fleeting encouragement… if you long for depth, faithfulness, and daily reminders that joy is anchored in Christ alone… Daily Joy is the companion you’ll want beside your Bible.

For readers who desire a steady, Scripture-centered resource for daily reflection, this is a devotional I gladly recommend. I’m grateful for Crossway’s commitment to resources that keep the Bible and the Gospel at the center of our daily rhythms.

I received a complimentary hardback edition of this book from Crossway. I was not required to write a positive review and was not compensated in any way. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own and reflect my honest evaluation of the book’s writing, content, and scriptural soundness.

This is a "On-the-Go" devotional book, but each short chapter is packed with the author's candid views on contentment, which are always taken from a verse(s) of scripture. I went back after reading this book and just pondered again on all the paragraphs and sentences I had underlined in the book as I read it. So many jewels of thought that calls on women to keep their eyes on our sovereign God, as He truly is our source of contentment. Highly recommend any books by this author.

Just one of show more many quotes from her book: "We can be content with our lives exactly as they are today because God has promised he is always with us. Our problem really isn't that we need something we don't have; our problem is that we don't find God to be enough for us." Hebrews 13:5 show less

This is my first book by this author, but it will not be my last. I loved this book! She did such a good job of using scripture and showing how we can have joy in so many situations (in rejection, in repentance, in letting go, in eternity, in waiting, in forgiveness, and on and on). This is not a big book, but it took me a long time to read, as I just wanted to stop and reflect each day on each short devotional. Each day it helped me focus on God and what His word says, and that is a good show more way to start ones day. This is definitely one I will pick up and read again. show less
A Woman’s Wisdom
Lydia Brownback

Book Summary: Advice books are no short-lived trend, even though much of the advice parading as “wisdom” proves shallow in the long run. What we need is biblical wisdom, and even more than that we need hearts set on the One who governs all our practicalities. The book of Proverbs unlocks the key to both, helping us to face very real challenges such as:
• handling our freedom, independence, and material resources wisely
• keeping ourselves sexually pure show more
• practicing biblical femininity in a world that scorns us for it
• sustaining God-glorifying marriages
• elevating biblical priorities ahead of day-to-day pressures
Exploring the timeless counsel in the book of Proverbs, A Woman’s Wisdom teaches us to know the very Author of wisdom and to apply his relevant, how-to riches.
Review: I liked this book. Although it was not exhaustive it was Biblical. I liked that every time she sought to make a point she used scripture. Than would elaborate on it with examples, especially how she struggles. It was never preachy, yet she did make good use of her points and examples. She laid out some very thought provoking concepts about becoming desensitized to our sin. She also worked through the ideas of growing in discipleship. I liked how the overall book was set up and the use of Proverbs. It is a tough piece of scripture to elaborate on yet she does a wonderful job. One of my favorite points was about fear. I think her ideas were a representation of the Scripture. She does a great job of pulling from other scripture while using Proverbs.
I would like to thank Net Galley and Crossway for allowing me to read and review this book in return for a free copy and I was never asked to write a favorable review by anyone. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255
