The first half of this book is worth 5 stars regardless of how the rest turned out. Macrina writes with such joy and fullness that you can't help but get pulled in to the depths of intimacy with God that she experiences. The back end of this book is filled with letters and practices that can be very helpful if you aren't familiar with them. For me the second half wasn't nearly as compelling as the first half, but the first half is such a game changer I can't imagine an entire book like that.
Designed for daily use as well as for retreats, Seasons of Your Heart is an eloquent and lyrical invitation to journey through the spiritual seasons of wonder, hope, love, mystery, and faith.

Macrina Weiderkehr shares her "seasonal struggle with God" and encourages us to reconize those same peaks and valleys in our own spiritual life. Using biblical passages, poetry, and excerpts from her journal, Wiederkehr provides meditative ideas and prayers as "postures" for realizing and approaching the show more holy in our daily lives. show less
Although I do not consider myself a Christian, I was drawn to this book because of its approach to mindfulness. Wiederkehr's writing style is engaging and I appreciated her pulling from a variety of sources for the prayers included.

Casts too wide a net, but perhaps that's my lack of spiritual discernment. The Buddists seem to be better at this sort of thing, though.
